MV-22 makes precautionary landing near church, eye witnesses say aircraft was smoking

The flight crew of a VMMT-204 MV-22 were forced to make a precautionary landing on a field in Jacksonville on Thursday.

Eye witnesses say they saw smoke coming out of the aircraft and a U.S. Navy spokeswoman confirmed the reports. 1st Lt. Kristin Dalton said the pilots had to land as fuel was leaking onto hot parts of the aircraft.

Japanese media who were in North Carolina covering the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, drove to Jacksonville Friday to get a shot of the Osprey.
